Galentine's Day just might be one of the most inventive and necessary of the modern holidays, taken as it was from a television comedy. January has two birth flowers - the snowdrop and the carnation. It's the latter bloom that we here at Bagoy's Florist & Home want to celebrate in this week's blog. Available in a dozen colors (you can even get them striped), the carnation is one of our most versatile flowers, lovely as a stand alone bloom or alongside other ones, where it can be a compelling supporting act. A carnation's intricate layers never seem fussy, instead they add a nice textual element to any bouquet.

More than any of the other three trends identified, Magnificent Mediterranean speaks to the traveler's spirit. It's a luxe, free-form look filled with flowers in colors of orange, blue and gold. We've all played Secret Santa (or some variation on the theme) before, whether at work, among a group of friends or at a holiday party. And whatever we call it - Yankee Swap, White Elephant, or, if you're in Latin America, "Amigo Secreto" - the group gift swap has one objective, to make sure that everyone gets a present.
It's also tons of fun and an older practice than you may think. Its origins can be traced back to Scandinavia, where a Santa Claus-like figure would knock on doors and when they were answered, toss his present inside before he could be seen.
