Experts tell us that June is the most common month for weddings, and we suspect that is due to the fact that across much of the United States, June is the most temperate month of the year. Although here in Anchorage we do not need to shy away from August weddings, there are actually some interesting historical reasons why June is so popular for weddings – and no matter which month you choose, you can be assured that Bagoy’s Florist & Home is here to provide the most extraordinary wedding flowers.
Historically speaking, there are two ancient traditions that likely influenced the popularity of June weddings. In ancient Rome, the goddess Juno was revered for her protection of women, especially during marriage and childbirth. It would only make sense that brides would choose to get married during the month which bore her name. In Celtic culture, it was common for couples to partner up on May Day (May 1) and then get married in exactly 3 months. However, when anxious and impatient youth couldn’t wait so long, the tradition was altered to allow for weddings in mid-June, and across Europe that was when the weddings would take place.
Of course, with so many weddings taking place in June it would only follow that there are a lot of June anniversaries as well! Whether the carnation for your first anniversary, the daisy for your 5th anniversary, the daffodil for your 10th, or the aster for your 20th, you can trust the expert floral designers at Bagoy’s to create a bouquet featuring the perfect anniversary flowers.
